Network Design & Consultancy
The growth of Internet/Intranet-based applications has caused a corresponding evolution in networks that use an IP-based infrastructure. These networks form the backbone of many large communications networks, including:

Internet Service Providers

3G

Enterprise and military networks

Providing stable and scalable transport for user traffic

The design of large-scale IP-based networks is a complex task requiring extensive experience and understanding of the underlying communications technology. We have decades of experience of designing networks to meet customer requirements, including bespoke solutions where there are specific QoS and security requirements.

Network Management
The economic drivers in the communications industry necessitate that modern networks be able to support a range of convergent applications, including Internet, telecommunications and even broadcast services. Such a spectrum of requirements makes the control and management of IP-based networks a demanding task. Two key tools that help in this task are QoS Management and Policy-based Management.

QoS Management controls resource management in the network so that real-time and non-real-time services can be supported in a scalable and efficient manner. We have experience of developing QoS-based networks and have participated in collaborative R&D projects in QoS Management.

Policy Based Management (PBM) is a rules-driven approach that can be used to automate pre-configurable system management tasks. It is usually employed in a network management context, for activities such as network security configuration or Quality of Service provisioning, although it is a more widely applicable system management technique.

In collaboration with other Thales companies, we are exploring the use of PBM as a widely applicable technique for communication system management, particularly for controlling context- or mission- specific systems and enabling the rapid deployment and dynamic use of multi-party and multi-level infrastructures.
